Carlo Pirola holds the chair of Band Instrumentation at the "G.Verdi" Conservatory in Milan. He has been a collaborating conductor with the famous La Scala theatre and has held courses in band composition and conducting at the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano. He often takes part in refresher courses for conductors with amateur and professional musicians.

His original compositions for band have won him first prize in numerous competitions both national and international (amongst the most recent: 1st Prize at the Corciano-Perugia International Competition in 1997, 1st Prize Famiglia Busi-AMBER in Bologna, 1° Prize at CISM-DE-HASKE International Competition in Basel in 1998, 1st Prize at the I Capitano Competition in Brescia in 1999 and recently, 1st Prize at the International Competition promoted by the Confédération Musicale de France - Paris - for an original composition for band and choir in 2000).

Carlo Pirola's CV and band works can be found in three dictionaries: "La musica italiana per banda e gruppi di fiati" Vol. II by Marino Anesa, the "Neue Lexicon Blasmusikwesen" by W.Suppan – published by Schulz-Freiburg (Germany) and "The Heritage Encyclopaedia of Band Music" by W.H. Rehrig - Integrity Press – Ohio USA). He has been on the juries of many provincial and regional classification competitions, also at national and international level. He is a member of WASBE Italian section. Since 1999 he has been part of the Artistic Direction of the International Band Competition "Flicorno d'oro" held in Riva del Garda.
