It is a course structured over 4 years.
It is based on the “Metafoor” method, the book written by the teacher Alex Schillings and already in use at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (the Nederlands) and the BDBMusikakademie in Staufen (Germany) with excellent high-quality results.
The “Metaphore” method includes:
Harmony, wind band instrumentation and form analysis lessons are included in the didactic program of the course and will be held by the instrumentation/composition teacher M°Giuliano Moser.
Each year is organized over 6 intensive weekends of lessons.
An entry exam (without markings) is obligatory for admission to the four-year course, every student must start from the 1st year. The educational programme for each student will be based on the level demonstrated during the entry exam and will be developed over the four years.
At the end of the 2nd year the students must take an intermediate practical and theoretical exam. At the end of the 4th year the students must take a final practical and theoretical exam.
The handbook used for the lessons will be “Metaphore”, currently available in Dutch and German, shortly available also in English under the name of “How to…Conduct” (ed.De Haske).

All our conducting courses include practical conducting lessons during each weekend with wind bands, ensembles and/or piano, according to the listed repertoire and availability. (*)
This course will be run in English and translation will be provided when necessary.
The Istituto Superiore Europeo Bandistico collaborates with the Rovereto Wind Orchestra and various wind bands from local and surrounding areas in order to offer our students the best learning conditions.
(*) in case of emergency lockdown due to Covid-19 the practical lessons will be reduced and carried out with small chamber ensembles.
Fees for the “Metaphore” conducting course:
- Annual enrollment fee and obligatory insurance for ALL students —> €100
- Annual course fee —> €1300 (€100 enrollment fee not included)
• first installment of €650 upon enrollment • second installment of €650 to be paid before 31st January 2022
Students who pay the full fee on enrollment to be completed before 15th September 2021 are entitled to a discount —> €1200 (€100 enrollment fee not included) 10% discount on the full annual course fee is reserved to current members of ANDB, DIBA, PentaMusa.
Each student can apply for one course only, “Metaphore” or “Traditional”, but can take part in one or more weekends from the other course at an extra cost.
The fee for a single extra weekend is €150 for the ISEB students (€180 for non-ISEB students).
